Chapter 4
October 2007
Serena always thought that she was in way over her head, being carried away. She went nuts to think that that feeling was called love, which was not. This was definitely called “Friendship Love”, she thought. She thought so only because maybe she started to be in the same class with Sam again. She just “love” him, and that feeling totally filled her up. During these few months, Serena had changed a lot, really a lot. In the past she would not go around hugging her friends. She just wouldn’t. But when she saw Joanna and Faith like that, she felt normal, there was nothing wrong to hug people when you wanted to cheer him or her up, or comfort them, or whatever. It was totally fine by her now.
On the National Day, Joanna, Sam, Faith and Serena, went to have some fun since it’s a holiday.
“Hey, Serena.” Joanna walked to her right after the teacher left the classroom.
“Yeah?” Serena asked as she was packing her books. She was so glad to have a break even though school had just started a few months but senior high was starting to drive her nuts.
“Wanna hang out with us tomorrow?”
Serena thought for a second and then looked up from the table, “Sure. What’re we gonna do?”
“Ice-skating?” Joanna said with a happy smile.
“I’m not too sure I know how.”
“Hey Sam!” Joanna called as he was walking passed.
“We are hanging out tomorrow. Do you think you can join us?”
Sam glanced at Serena and answered, “Fantastic.”
“We’re talking about whether we should go ice-skating or do something else, because here,” Joanna pointed at Serena, “This awesome gal said she wasn’t sure she know how to skate.”
Serena shot her a dead glared. Sam raised his eyebrows and said, “Oh, then why don’t we go cycling? I’m sure you know how, right?” Sam asked Serena.
“You see, Joanna, you put it like I don’t know any sports!”
Sam chuckled.
“So you know, huh?” Joanna asked and laughed.
“Of course I do! You watch out for me on that day!” Serena said with her eyes narrowed.
“Oh, I’m so scared.” Joanna laughed even harder.
Sam stepped in, “Ok, so we’re settled, go cycling, let me know the time and place then.” He said and then walked away.
When Serena and Joanna were talking, he just could not take his eyes off Serena. He loved to see her laugh, get mad in a not-really-mad way. He just loved those expressions.
*
“Oh My Gosh! Slow down, Sam!” Serena was sitting at the back of the bike that Sam was riding. Serena grabbed his t-shirt, never letting go, she was afraid that she would fall.
“It’s fine, trust me!!” Sam smiled cheerfully at the front seat. He was so happy to have Serena so close to him, he wanted to have her in his arms, but right now his hands were way too busy.
“Serena, I love you.” Sam said, not loud enough for Serena to take in clearly. But he hoped to say it out loud.
“What did you say?” Serena asked, she was still hanging on his tightly, but she knew Sam would never let her fall over.
Sam blushed, he never expected her to hear he talked, “I said I love riding with you.” He told Serena.
After a while, Sam pulled over and Serena climbed off the bike.
“It’s so much fun riding with you, Sam!” Serena laughed as she grabbed the bottle of water from her bike, she removed the lid and took a huge mouthful, and then handed it to Sam.
“The happiest day I’ve ever had!!! You guys made my Day!!!” She walked to Sam and hugged him, for that moment she forgot Joanna was there, staring at them with wide eyes.
Chapter 5
October 2007
“Serena, are you coming tonight?” Joanna asked, they had been talking about the little movie that Sam had took part in for the Drama project last year. Serena was desperate to watch it.
“There is no way I won’t come. See you after dinner.” Serena said and walked out of the Chemistry Lab.
Serena and Joanna watched the little movie --- Lamb to the Slaughter. Serena laughed out loud so much when watching it; she focused on Sam the whole time.
At that moment, she really thought she loved Sam, and she had the urge to call him and let him know, but of course she did not do so. Later that night, Serena sent text messages to Joanna.
*
I can’t sleep, when I close my eyes, all I can see is Sam. LOL I cannot stop thinking about the Lamb to the Slaughter!!!
S.
*
Ha-Ha, you are in love with Sam. Sighed, but it is okay, he is way too cool.”
Jo
*
Serena replied in a joking way, trying to hide the true meaning behind.
I think I am really in love with him! Ha-Ha! Sam is really very cool and awesome. Dammit! I am in love!
S.
*
Oh~ Never mind in love with him, he’s worth it. I will support you!
Jo.
*
Oh My Gosh! He’s not just handsome, but so cute too!!”
S.
*
Honestly, he is really good, so get hold of the chance, and don’t lose it. By the way, you need to control a bit, don’t scare him off. Ha-Ha.
Jo.
*
Sam was having dinner with his parents; they were lecturing him about college stuff. But Sam was not interested at all, for god’s sake, there was one more year to go! He took out his cell phone every few minutes, checking for voicemail or missed calls.
“Son, are you waiting for a call?” Sam’s mum asked as she took a sip of the tea since she had been talking to him for almost an hour.
“No. I’m sorry.” Sam said and put away his phone. He knew it was rude to not listen to his parents’ lecture but kept looking at his phone checking for this and that, but he just could not stop himself from doing that, he was, indeed, waiting for someone to call her.
Serena.
He was hoping that Serena would call him for whatever reason.
If only Sam knew Serena also felt the same about him, then everything would be cool. It was hard to imagine that Serena and Sam’s relationship would develop so fast without noticing.
Chapter 6
October 2007
Josskip: hey, are u ok? cuz Sam and I got fever
Serena: You got a fever or Sam?
Josskip: both
Serena: really? What’s happened?
Josskip: ya, both of us are dying
Serena: no wonder why his voice was so tired just now
Josskip: yaa, totally different
Serena: no wonder he has to take medicine!
Josskip: He called me just now, then I was wondering who was that….with such voice…I asked him, he said he’s Sam but I just don’t believe him…. And I even asked him not to play.
Serena: I was wondering whether I dial the wrong number LOL
Josskip: I wonder if that person is pretending to be Sam.
Serena: Ha-Ha, Got a fever today or yesterday?
Josskip: I think I got it on Friday night. As for Sam, I’m not sure if it’s yesterday night or this morning. He told me before it was just a cold, and then this morning he got a fever.
Serena: Geez~ he eats too many snacks
Josskip: He’s so not healthy.
Serena: I think if he stops eating that kind of food, his health will be better.
Josskip: next time don’t let him eat.
Serena: Let’s do that together, make him healthy again!
Josskip: Yeah right!
On that day, Sam was absent for school. When walking up the stairs, Serena asked Joanna. “Where’s Sam?” Serena was looking around, searching for the sign of Sam.
“He’s sick. He’s staying at home today.” Joanna whispered as walking passed by the staff room.
“Oh my gosh, is her alright?” Serena’s eyebrows shoot up.
“I don’t know exactly, I just know that he is sick.” Joanna explained.
After knowing Sam was sick, Serena did not have the mood to do anything the entire morning. Even though it was just one afternoon she spent away from Sam, it was enough to make her restless and the hours always dragged.
“Miss Pleasure, can you tell me which country lost during World War II?” Mrs. Natalie asked, her fingers tapping the table, waiting for her answer.
Serena bit her lower lip, knowing she’s doomed because she was not listening to the teacher and did not prepare for the lesson the day before. “
Mrs. Natalie shook her head, “I don’t know why you’ll think that is the answer, but I can tell that you didn’t prepare for your lesson as well as you weren’t listening to me in the last 30 minutes, am I right, Miss Pleasure?” she said straight to the point with a British accent.
Serena lowered her head, feeling embarrassed, “I’m sorry.”
Mrs. Natalie glanced over her and the continued the lesson. Serena let out a sigh, she had been thinking of Sam all the time. Now she just had to admit the fact that she liked him.
Finally what seemed like forever, it’s lunch time, after Serena got her food tray with only a coke and sandwich on it, she sped dial Sam.
“Hey.” Sam answered with a very sleepy and sick voice which made Serena worried sick!
“Sam! Heard you were sick? How’re you feeling?” Serena was hoping for a good reply. Please don’t tell me you are so sick that you are going to the hospital. Serena thought.
“I’ll live. I don’t know what happen to me, I just kept puking. I’m feeling so….uh…. vulnerable.”
Serena relaxed a bit after hearing that.
“You should get some rest.” Serena told him.
“I’m wondering whether I should go to school this afternoon, if I’m better.”
“No, don’t! Please get some rest; you will probably end up in the clinic.” Serena teased, trying so hard to use the normal voice, hoping Sam will not notice how worry she is.
“Ok, then. I’ll talk to you later.”
“Yep, bye.”
Serena hanged up.
Sam smiled happily and continued to stare at the phone even after the line went dead for a long time. He was glad that Serena called; he loved to hear her voice. He smiled to himself and slowly drifted off to a restful sleep.
Chapter 7
October 2007
Sometimes I wake up crying at night, and sometimes I scream out your name……….
Serena glanced at the cell phone, seeing it was Sam who was calling her, and then she answered, “Yeah?”
“Serena, I don---” Sam started to speak but was cut off by Serena.
“You don’t sound so good.” Serena said with worried.
“That’s why I’m calling you. I don’t think I will join you guys at the club tonight, you know, damn headache. It’s killing me.”
“Yeah, sure, get some rest, don’t worry.”
Serena’s heart sank. He’s sick again?
“I’ll call you tomorrow.” Sam whispered and hanged up when he heard footsteps coming down the hall; he quickly buried his head under the pillow and pretended to be asleep not wanting to let Nancy know that he was suffering from headache, if not, the next thing he knew would be a thermometer under his tongue.
“Sam?”
Sam was trying to control his breaths; he took deep, even breaths as he heard the door open and
Serena,
I’ll see you tomorrow. Sweet dream!
Sam.
Sam smiled, and pressed sent.
*
The next morning, Sam was feeling a lot better with a good night sleep. His stomach felt so empty and was groaning when he smelled the delicious breakfast on his way to the kitchen. Sam took the toasts and put it into his mouth just as the moment
“HEY! That’s mine!”
“Don’t be like that, this maybe the last time me eating breakfast together.” Sam said as he was putting the books on the counter.
“What do you mean?”
“I’m not coming back the coming semester; I guess I’ll just stay in the dorm.” Sam told her, chewing the toast happily.
“Why?”
“Too much work to do, don’t have so much time to come back and forth.” Sam explained as he took another bite of the toast, “Um…it tastes good.” he smiled at her.
“Oh.”
“So you don’t have to prepare my dinner anymore.” Sam said and drained the whole glass of orange juice down his throat.
“Hey, are you alright?” Sam asked and waved his hand in front of her eyes.
“Yeah, I’m just too happy to know I don’t have to prepare your dinner!”
Sam shook his head, “Yeah, you sure do.” He took his car keys from the counter and put on his shoes, “I’ll see you on weekends.” He said and left the house.
*
“Hey guys, how’s the drama coming along?” Sam asked at he entered Serena’s dorm. He sniffed; the smell of Serena’s perfume had him surrounded. He loved the fragrance; it felt so cozy, and felt so Serena.
“Hey yourself, dude.” Lax snapped, “What took you so long to get here?”
Sam frowned, and noticed that Lax was not in a good mood. “Sorry, man. I got stuck in the traffic. I promise, no next time.”
“You always break your promise.” Faith said and let out a laugh. Sam shot her a dead glare and she looked away at once.
“Anyway, who I’m gonna dance with?” Sam asked, and looked around to search for Serena.
“Serena,” Joanna shouted and Serena walked out of her room, “Sam’s here, we can start.”
“Finally.” Serena muttered, not because she was angry, she wanted to see him but he just had not come yet.
*
“Oh My Gosh! How can that be so complicated!?” Serena laughed as they were practicing the dance of
“Serena, I really like dancing with you!!” Sam replied as he was sitting down next to Serena on the floor.
“Can you guys keep going? Just keep dancing; you two will be great at that!” Faith said and took a sip of the coke.
“You say that! It’s not easy and besides, I can’t stop laughing.” Serena kept laughing as she was getting up from the floor.
“By the way, I wanna put on our costumes, and dance with it. The feeling will be better.” Serena suggested and looked at Sam.
“Sure and tied up your hair as well, separate one. Make it two.” Lax said suddenly and everyone looked at him.
“What? You gotta be kidding me! Two? Really need to look like a cowgirl?” Serena was surprised with what she head.
“You will look pretty, Serena, don’t worry. I won’t laugh at you.” Sam said as he was trying to hide his smile.
“Bite me!” Serena shot back and she headed to the bathroom to tie up her hair.
After a few minutes, Serena walked out of the bathroom and headed to the living room where everyone was sitting.
“Um…well?”
Everyone looked at Serena.
“I know I look funny, just forget about it.” Serena turned away.
“No! Serena, you look great.” Sam commented with a smile. Serena narrowed her eyes wondering if it was true.
“Yeah, Serena. You are awesome.” Faith and Joanna both nodded in agreement.
“Really?” Serena asked with a frown.
“Trust us.” Sam smirked.
“Okay. Let’s dance and then we are going to have dinner, I’m starving.” Serena walked to Sam and held out her hands. Then both of them started to dance.
At 1:30, Faith, Sam and Lax went to have lunch with their parents and as for Serena and Joanna; they went to have sushi together. Joanna and Serena walked along the street, pretending to be tourists and speak foreign language; both of them were having so much fun. When they were having meal, Joanna and Serena were talking about the video Lamb to the Slaughter again.
“‘You want whisky or brandy?’ Lax was so funny. By the way, I love the one that when Sam said. ‘Just up to you’ He was so cool at that moment!” Serena was very exhilarated when talking about Sam.
“Yeah, I agree with you, and also there is one more, ‘Would you please stop bothering?’ ‘Oh My Gosh, no, in fact, I’ve fallen in love with another woman.’ These two sentences are awesome!! I love that.” Joanna replied.
They chatted during the entire meal, without leaving the topic of the video. But finally Joanna left the topic and asked a very surprising question.
“Do you love Sam?”
Serena looked at Joanna in astonishment, “What?” Serena’s eyes opened wide.
“I’m just curious; you don’t have to answer
“What do you think?” Serena asked, playing with her fingers.
“I feel like Sam does like you, because you two really get along well in such a short time.” Joanna answered.
“Honestly, I don’t know. But I do have some feeling for him. But don’t tell him that! I don’t know for sure.”
Serena’s face turned red when saying this. “Don’t worry, your secret dies with me.”
Chapter 8
November 2007
Everything is so normal….she is a friend of mine; it’s not a big deal for me to call her. Sam thought.
After finished the examination of that day, Serena walked to Sam and asked. “Hey, how did you do in the exam just now?” Sam answered as he was packing his stuff.
“It’s ok. Anyhow, what’s done is done. You ready?” asked Sam as Serena nodded. He then slung the bag over his shoulder and walked out of the classroom with Serena.
*
“Sam!”
“Hey Nance, what’s up?” Sam said as he was getting into the Volvo.
“Finally the midterm is over! Let’s go celebrate tonight!”
Midterm. She hated it very much.
“I’m glad it’s over. But...uh…” Sam trailed off, he did not know how to tell
“Actually, yes.” Sam answered reluctantly, and then immediately added, “We’re gonna go party tonight, do you wanna join us?” Sam asked politely, even though he did not really want
“Well, no. Since you have plans, then I don’t have to call off MY plans. Talk to you later.”
Sigh, now that I have to call my friends to tell them I’m coming. Damn Sam!
Sam frowned, he knew
*
Stepping into the gym, Sam was stunned. It was packed with people. He was surprised to see Lax wearing a tuxedo. And all the girls were all wearing night gowns.
Joanna was in a shiny black dress with a pair of four inches heels, she was chatting happily with Faith. Faith was wearing a black and white flowery top dress. She looked pretty. The most gorgeous one was standing next to the counter, wearing a white laces white dress of layers and with a ribbon in front, a pair of white high heeled shoes which were transparent. She looked like a princess with the necklace of pearls or her head. She was beyond words.
Turning around, she greeted, “Hey Sam.” Serena smiled and walked to him, handing him a glass of champagne.
Receiving the glass, Sam asked, “What’s all this?”
Serena smirked, “You mean why you are in jeans while the others are in tux?”
Sam chuckled, “Yeah. I wasn’t told to wear a tux, not even a suit!”
“I thought Lax told you.”
“No, he didn’t.” Sam shook his head. He walked to Lax, “Hey man.”
Lax turned around, “Hey Sam,” he frowned and asked, “What’re you wearing?”
“That’s a good question.”
“Uh…I guess the message didn’t send out, bro!” Lax laughed.
Sam grinned, didn’t know what else to say.
Serena shook his hand causing him to turn around to face her, “Shall we dance?” she asked, a smile danced on her lips.
Sam swung her around and placed his hand on her back.
Then the dance began.
*
Sam picked up the phone at third ring.
“ ‘Alo?”
“What took you so long to answer the phone?”
Sam laughed, he was in a good mood, “Long night, anyway, what’s up?”
“I’m wondering if you coming back tonight?”
Sam yawned and muttered, “Ah….I’m not sure.”
“C’mon, Sam! You haven’t been home for three weeks; it’s not so much fun without you.”
Sam laughed again, sitting up from the bed, he swung his legs off the bed and headed to the bathroom, “Well, is that a compliment?” he asked and grabbed a clean boxer from the drawer.
“Maybe”
“Well, anyway, I don’t think I’m coming back tonight, maybe next week?”
“Oh, Sam, please? I did some groceries and I bought all the food that you like.” Nancy sounded upset and Sam heard that, but he did not know why, the more time he spent with Serena and the others, the more he did not care about Nancy, he knew that it was wrong, he should care about her, but he did not understand why he just would not bother to, maybe probably because he had spent way too much time with her and he just wanted to have some fun with his friends.
“I’m so sorry,” Sam apologized but he didn’t really mean it, “But I got a presentation due Monday and I gotta practice the drama. I’m sorry, Nance.” Sam lied. In fact he had finished his midterm and there would never be any assignment after that, but he wanted to hang out with his friends instead of having dinner with
“You know, that’s how teachers torture students. We’ll never understand.” Sam answered, hoping
“Uh…whatever. Promise me that you’ll come over for dinner next week. I’m gonna cook the most delicious food for you!”
“Yeah sure, I’ll be there.”
“You better!”
“Anyway, I gotta go, so...uh…talk to you later.”
Sam hanged up.
“Hello?”
Sam hanged up so fast that she did not even have the chance to say more things.
“Work work work! Before that it was basketball and now it’s the god damn project again!”
*
Sunday passed and Monday came, it was the first day of the final term. During this week, students were going to know how they did in their exam. Today was Mathematics. Serena was so worried all the time, because her math sucks. She worked so hard in the exam this time; she really hoped it would not turn out bad. Their Math teacher, Mr. Wilson, came into the classroom and the class all stood up and greeted.
“Good morning, Mr. Wilson.”
“Today you are going to know the result of your Math examination.” He put down the book and picked up the papers and started to distribute one by one.
Number 42……40……35…..20…..14….
When it was Serena’s turned, she walked away from her seat and went to get the paper.
D
Her eyes widened, she was shocked when she saw it was written in red saying that she got a D! She failed in her Math again! Her only one last chance to put everything right! Sam looked at Serena, knowing something was not right. Him seeing Serena trying to escape from her eyes meeting Sam’s, he knew she was upset.
After Mr. Wilson had explained about the Examination and students had returned the paper. Serena excused herself. She rushed to the washroom immediately, Sam followed her right away.
“Hey, Serena!” Sam called. Serena ignored him and just kept walking.
“SERENA PLEASURE!” Finally Serena turned around, tears were swimming in her eyes, and her face was soaked with them.
“What is it?” Sam walked to her; his hand reached forward and cleared the tears for Serena.
“You know what’s happened. I got a D again! I can’t believe that! No matter how much I pay, it’s all useless! Why I even bother to study hard!?” Serena cried. Sam held her shoulders and pulled her up against him, her face pressing to his chest; he kissed the top of her head.
“No, it’s not like this. You’ve tried you best. C’mon, don’t cry.”
Sam held Serena tightly, rubbing her back; he coaxed her like a baby who lost her mother. Serena buried her head in Sam’s chest and sobbed.
“Shh…Shh...It’s ok….it’s gonna be okay. No one will blame you.” Sam soothed.
Chapter 9
November 2007
It was the school picnic day. Every year, after the midterm; there would be a picnic hold by the school.
When getting on the coach, Serena thought to herself, Will Sam reserve me a seat?
As she got on the coach, she looked left and right, searching for Sam, then she spotted him, Sam waved at Serena. She walked to him and sat down.
“Thanks, Sam.”
Sam smiled in return.
“Dude, I’m starving! Can’t you go and bring the food?” Sam complained as he was making the fire for barbecue.
“Ok! Ok! Bro, stop whining, I’m going to get them!” Lax said as he was smiling and walking to the main table to get the food. Soon Lax was back with a huge plate of food in hand.
“Here they are! Sam! Let’s get started!” Lax shouted.
“Finally….” Sam muttered.
Sam paid so much attention to the fire, everytime when the fire was going out, he would immediately stop eating and do something about it.
“Hey, stop serving us, thought you were starving,” Serena said to Sam, “Here.” Serena put the fork with a pork chop on it to Sam’s mouth.
“Tastes good?” Serena smiled as she asked Sam.
“Yeah, of course! Ha-ha. But it tastes like it’s half cooked.” Sam said shyly.
“Crap! Really? I’m sorry!” Serena tried the pork and she found out it was half cooked indeed.
“It’s ok, doesn’t matter.” Sam laughed.
After they had their stomach fed and they started to play together. They were like those 5 year-old kids in the park, playing hide-and-seek, chasing after one another. Everyone laughed so much and had a wonderful time. In a blink of an eye, it’s time to go back. On the way back school, Serena and Sam were both so tired. Serena lied on Sam’s shoulder and had fallen asleep on the couch. Sam placed his head on Serena’s, but the couch was way too noisy and he could not fall asleep.
“Serena…Serena…hey, wake up, we are almost there.” Sam coaxed and shaking her shoulder gently.
“Um…” Serena sat up straight, “Oh, my earring hurts my ear.” Serena frowned.
Sam just looked at Serena and chuckled.
“What’s so funny?” Serena asked, but Sam just kept on laughing.
“Nothing.”
They got off the bus and Sam went to played basketball, which was his favorite sport. Serena then said goodbye to him and went to take photos with her friends.
Candy, one of Serena’s friend walked passed and said, “Finished dating?”
Serena was confused and asked, “With who?”
Candy smiled in a very cunning way, “Parker. Sam Parker. Ring a bell?” she teased.
Serena’s face blushed when she heard Sam’s name, “Go away, we’re not!” she said and walked away.
*
“Sam!” The door opened and he was greeted by a huge hug from
Sam laughed, “Yeah, but I think we do see each other everyday.” He said, gently pulled
“Oh, whatever. So, you said you cook me delicious food?” Sam asked and walking toward the kitchen.
“You’ll be surprised.”
Sam frowned.
“Surprised?”
“I never know you know how to cook steak! Thank you, Nance.”
Both of them sat down and began the dinner. They chatted happily and laughed all the time.
“Thanks again. The dinner is wonderful.” Sam said as he was getting up.
“Stay here tonight.”
“I have classes tomorrow.” Sam said, putting on his jacket.
“You used to go to school from here, what makes the difference?”
Sam opened his mouth, he wanted to defense but he couldn’t think of anything to say. It was true that he went to school from here in the past, so there shouldn’t be any difference. He closed his mouth.
“You don’t wanna stay in the same house with me.”
“Nonono, it’s not about you.” Sam denied at once, it was really not about
“Then stay.”
There was nothing Sam could do; he gave in with a nod.
Chapter 10
December 2007
In the past two days, Serena and Sam kept on chatting on phone. They woke up so early in the morning, 5:
“Don’t you think we are so crazy that we choose to chat but not sleep?” Sam asked as he was laughing on the phone.
“Totally.” Serena smirked.
It was still early after they hanged up, so Serena went back to sleep. On the same night, they chatted again till the middle of the night. Sam and Serena loved to chat on phone with each other, they did not really have anything specific to talk about but they just loved to each others’ voice.
*
Sam and Serena were walking down the corridor, chatting happy. When suddenly a girl, with short brown hair and wearing a pair of loosen jeans, grabbed Sam’s hand and pulled him away from Serena.
“Sam, can I have a word with you?” The girl was Grace, she was a very good friend of Serena and of course Sam knew her too. She was Serena’s kindergarten friend and they had been in the same school all the time.
Sam turned and frowned at Serena, “Uh…sure.” he said, wondering what so important that Grace had to grab him aside in the middle of his conversation with Serena.
Sam turned, smiling at Serena, he said, “I’ll be right back.” She nodded and walked to the nearby branch and sat down.
Grace and Sam walked to the corner and she stared, “You’re in love with Serena.” It’s a statement not a question, which was a fact as well.
Sam raised his eyebrows, “Um…do I have to answer you?” he looked at her.
Grace’s eyes widen in surprised, “No you just have to answer that to yourself and to Serena. But I’m telling you, if you really do love her, you can’t hurt her. I won’t forgive you if you do.” she said with threat.
“Huh.” Sam shaking his head, he laughed and walked away.
“I mean it!” Grace said.
Sam could not help but laughed; he could not believe Grace would say something like that to him. He could never imagine what she would do when Serena and he were together.
Sam walked to where Serena was sitting, “C’mon, let’s go.”
Serena stood up and walked next to Sam, they did not speak. Sam was too busy with his thought; he was asking himself over and over whether he was really in love with Serena.
“What did you two talk about? She looks kinda threading, like she was questioning you about something.” Serena asked finally, breaking the silent.
Sam snapped out of his thought when he heard Serena speaking, “Oh, nothing.” He was not too willing to tell Serena for he did not what kind of reaction she would have.
“C’mon, tell me, I don’t like being the one in the dark.” Serena licked her lips and looked at Sam straight into his eyes.
Sam sighed, “She asked me if we’re dating.” He gave in and said, not just not the exact words that Grace used, but similar.
“No way! What did you say?” Serena tried to sound surprised; she knew Grace would ask Sam that, it was just the matter of time.
“I said no of course,” Sam relied, he did not know what he should say because he was not sure yet. Serena felt disappointed when hearing Sam saying no. But it was obviously that they were not dating.
“But she’s so funny; she wanted to make sure you won’t get hurt because of me. She’s just not ok with the answer no.” Sam laughed awkwardly; somehow, he wanted to tell Serena that he really was in love with her and he wanted her to be with him.
Serena nodded, did not know what else she could say. She told herself that one kiss just did not mean anything, it was just a kiss, and maybe Sam had already forgotten about it. She laughed at her own foolishness of thinking Sam loved her; she sighed as quiet as Sam would not be able to hear.
“Oh, by the way, Grace is gonna throw a party at her house tomorrow, right?” Sam asked and turned to her.
“Yep, will you go?”
“Sure, why not? And I’m thinking should we play along with them?” Sam suggested with a cunning smile.
“You mean we act like we’re dating?” Serena asked her eyebrows shot up.
“Bingo.”
Serena laughed and said, “I’m going to look for a pair of ring.”
“What’s that for?”
“Well, think about this, both of us wearing the same kind of ring means that we are together! Everyone will be surprised and none of them will accept you no.” Serena giggled; she really wished they were together, so they did not have to pretend to be just to have some fun.
“It’s gonna be a very funny day.”
