Chapter 10

December 2008

“How long will it take to get to the airport?” Faith asked the tour guide.

“Around two hours.”

“Good!” Faith said happily. Sam looked at Jasmine, hoping that she could give him some information about what happened to Serena. But she was too busy chatting with Joanna about what they should do when they got back since Christmas holiday hadn’t ended yet, therefore, Sam didn’t get a chance. After they had finished breakfast, everyone got on the coach, and then they began their way to the airport.

“Wake me when we’re there.” Serena said to Jasmine and had her head led on the window and closed her eyes.

Sam looked at Serena, she had her eyes closed and her chest raised and fell slowly, and with her iPod on, he knew that there was no way she could overhear anything.

Sam shook Jasmine on her shoulder and she turned to the seat behind, “What?” Jasmine asked impatiently because she wanted to get some sleep, but Sam was interrupting.

“Tell me what happened!” Sam whispered since most of the students in the bus were napping.

“Her stomach was not feeling too good, and then got threw up in the washroom. End of story.” Jasmine said and turned away from Sam.

“That’s it? Is she alright?” Sam asked, worried.

“Yes, she said she was feeling better after throwing up. Now let me sleep, if not, I’ll be the one who got sick!” Jasmine stared at Sam and then turned away again.

After that, Sam was still digesting what Jasmine has told him few seconds ago. Every time Sam knew Serena was not feeling well, he would feel so uneasy and would not have any mood to do anything. Sam wanted to sit next to Serena and take care of her; he wanted to check on her to see if she was okay because Sam never really believed Serena when she talked about her health.

Sam sighed loudly and went his hand through his hair, “Why?” Joanna asked as she looked at Sam with curiosity.

Sam snapped out of his thought and said, “I miss her, I really do.” he admitted.

“That’s why I asked you to choose, but the answer that you gave me was such a stupid one!” Joanna shot and turned away from Sam. She did not know what she could do anymore.

Sam looked at her, he didn’t know what to say, all he could do right this moment was to stop thinking about Serena. But that was always impossible when it was Serena.

*

“Hey, everybody, it’s time to wake up and get ready!” The tour guide said through the mic. Few seconds later, everyone started to wake up and put on their clothes, getting ready.

“S, wake up.” Jasmine coaxed as she was shaking her gently.

“What? Are we there?” Serena asked, and opened her eyes slowly, she yawned a huge yawn and had Jasmine done the same. Jasmine and Serena both laughed.

“Now c’mon, let’s get ready.” Jasmine said and stood up. The coach stopped in front of the airport, students got off the bus one by one and went to get their baggage.

“I don’t feel like myself.” Serena said to Jasmine.

Jasmine smirked as she put her baggage on the kart and Serena did the same.

“Man, I wanna sleep so badly!” Serena said as she walked into the airport with Jasmine next to her.

*

“Faith, can you ask your friends to move the suitcase to the other side? They’re blocking the way.” Mr. Wilson said.

“Sure.” Faith said and walked to Joanna and the others.

“Hey, we gotta move our suitcase to the other side.”

Serena was still felt like sleep walking, she didn’t really know what she was doing; all she knew was that she was in the airport and that Faith has asked them to move the suitcase. She walked to hers slowly; she bent down and picked it up.

“Are you all right?” Sam suddenly showed up next to Serena. She looked at him and frowned.

“Let me help you with that.” Sam offered. Serena didn’t have time to react or say anything; her suitcase was already with Sam. There was a lot on her mind, but at that moment even Sam talked to her and as well as offered help, she didn’t care. Her mind felt like stuffed with cotton; she wanted to close her eyes and sleep.

“Hey, Serena, here’s your ticket.” Joanna handed the ticket to Serena.

Serena nodded and took her ID out and prepared for the immigration. Sitting at the boarding area, Serena dozed off just for a little while and Jasmine shook her awake.

“Wake up, sleeping beauty, it’s time to board.” Jasmine smirked and walked to the boarding gate. Serena grabbed her bag and walked to Jasmine.

“Have a nice trip.” The flight attendant smiled and returned the boarding pass to both Jasmine and Serena.

Serena almost tripped when walking down the hallway to the plane; she could barely open her eyes; she really needed some sleep. She threw her backpack into the overhead cabin; she took her seat by the window.

“Jas, don’t wake me.” Serena said and closed her eyes and fell into a deep sleep seconds later. She didn’t want to care about anything, even the plane was crushing, she didn’t want to give a damn, and she was just too sleepy to care about anything and she needed to sleep.

Make words my future

When I write, I don't know where the sentences are from, where the characters and the whole story outline are from. They just arrive whenever I am taking a shower and announce themselves to me and I have no choice but to put pen to paper. I don't just want to write a story, I feel a story too and every time I write, I become so surrounded by the thoughts in my head and I just have to release it, and put pen to paper! Lots of people want to write books and the books that want to be written that are most successful.

I really want to make words my future. Every time I gaze at the computer blank screen, conversations, plots.... everything start to come to me and my fingers will start to punch in the keys and words start to appear on the screen. After I've finished one conversation or one scene, I will want to jump to another one. There's a lot of times I have spent hours on the computer, typing.

I write for fun. I really love to write. When I was 13, I wrote my first story, and honestly it sucks. It's about princesses and witches. I remember the second story that I wrote is when I was 14, at that time I was crazy about Harry Potter and I wrote Harry Potter 8. I was so proud of it because it was the longest story I have ever had at that time.

I always say I don't know how to write love story but the truth is I do. The first love story I wrote was when I was 15, it's called A dream of a dream-The tower of London. I can still remember where I got the idea from. I had a comprehension test about the Tower of London when I was in Grade 8, after I got home, I stared at my computer and ideas just came to me like a punch. Though it wasn't the best, but I like it. I keep writing stories. Usually every year I will come up with a new one. I've written two stories about abnormal life and superpower, called Psychic, and the other one called Everyone dies around me. I tried to write a detective story but I failed, it's never finished. I cant finish it because I really don't know how to write a detective story, I'm sure those who can must be really smart. LOL

Anywayz, after A dream of a dream-The tower of London I didn't write any love story until 2 years ago. After A dream of a dream-The tower of London, all my stories are about supernatural, things that will never happen in reality. My mum always says I am weird, I always watch this TV shows or movies about monsters, vampires, supernatural and I even write stories about those. Anywayz, let's talk about the reason why I wrote my second love story 2 years ago.

I had a big fight with my close friend when I was in Grade 10. She gave me the inspiration to write The Crossroad. The first draft really sucks. I showed it my sister and one of my friends, both of them told me it was boring. Well, it's true, because the story is based on what truly happened between my friend and I. I didn't add anything to it, I just simply wrote the entire thing. That was when I realized an interesting story cannot be all about real-life. You have to add a little fantasies here and there to make the story nice. The first draft only had 46 pages but then after editing, it's now around 160 pages. I showed that to my best friend, and she really loves it. She told me a while ago that she still reads it from time to time and I am really so happy to hear that. She is so encouraging and she is the reason why I started the second one after The Crossroad. I wrote The U-Turn because of her. There was one time during Christmas, we hanged out and she asked me, "You've written the first one, and I really love it, have you ever considered of writing another one related to it?" If she never asked, I would never write The U-Turn. These two stories were the longest and I think the most successful one among all the stories I wrote.

I really think it's really important to have someone close to you to like you stories and to encourage you and that is what makes you never stop and continue to write.

After The U-Turn, I stopped writing for a while, but as you know, I started a new story You're my boy friend but you aren't my boyfriend 3 months ago. I've decided to use that one to make my future and I'm sure I can do that. (Wish me luck!)

Cecilia Ahern, who wrote PS I Love You, can be the youngest writer (21 year-old), why can't I? I wont let age be an issue with writing. I may not have seen enough, known enough, but I sure know what when I write. It's always funny to me that sometimes I've had never experienced some kind of things, but when I am writing, I just know how to write. I just do.

No matter how many obstacles there are, how many rejections I will receive, but I won't give up because every person who dislikes my work there are so many more who may love it! Successful books get turn down several times before getting published, so I'm sure one day I will succeed!!!!!!!!!!

Happy Mother's Day!!!!

I Love You, MUM!

Chapter 9

December 2009

Happy times always came to an end. After six happy days of traveling, finally it was the last day of their graduation trip; tomorrow every student would be going back to Kansas.

The night before leaving, Serena, Sam, Joanna, Jasmine, Lax and Faith gathered in Sam and Joanna’s room and chatted all night.

“What kinds of guy do you like, Faith?” Joanna asked, as she led against the headboard.

“Um…he gotta love me so much, protect me and most importantly is to know how to cook!” Faith answered and turned to look at her.

“Ha-ha, I know you will like that type!” Lax laughed as he sat on the bed.

“What about you, Joanna?” Serena asked and turned to look at her.

“I, um, I like someone who has similar personality with me so that he won’t think that I’m way too active.” Joanna laughed.

“Joanna, no offense, but I really think that you shouldn’t be too close with guys, you always give them false hope.” Lax commented.

What? Well…I never know, I mean, what’s wrong to be close with friends?” Joanna asked innocently.

“But you can’t be sure that every one of them treats you as just friend.” Serena said, sitting up from the bed.

“So should I act in an icy way to them? Gee, that’s not easy. I’m not that kind of a person.” Joanna chewed her lips.

“Well, practice makes perfect.” Faith smiled.

Tic ta, tic ta……

“Wow, it’s 3:30 a.m. already! We should get some rest.” Sam announced, sitting down across from the rest on his own bed.

“Lax, let’s go, I think I can fall asleep the moment I make contact with the bed.” Faith yawned loudly.

“Ok.” Lax got up from the bed, put on his jacket, “See you guys tomorrow.” Faith and Lax then returned to their room.

“Serena, Jas, stay here. We can put the bed together and we can sleep altogether!” Joanna offered.

“Are you sure?” Jasmine asked in doubt.

“Of course, besides, I’m the one in charge!” Joanna giggled.

“S, are you okay with that?” Jasmine asked as she turned to Serena, but Serena had already fallen asleep.

“Well, I guess that’s a yes.” Jasmine smirked and climbed into the bed next to Serena.

After Sam changed into his pajamas and after brushing his teeth, he exited the bathroom. Jasmine, Joanna and Serena, the three of them had fallen asleep; he turned off the light, and found his way to Serena and pulled the cover over her before getting into the bed quietly next to Joanna. Sam could not fall asleep, he looked up at the ceiling but soon he had his eyes closed and let the night took over.

*

The telephone rang and woke Serena up. She rolled to the other side of the bed and picked it up.

“This is the morning call service, and it---.” Before hearing what everything on the phone, Serena ended it. She got off the bed; she brought her hand through her untamed bed-head hair as she looked around, seeing Joanna was still asleep, she figured it’s a good time to rule the washroom over without anyone disturbing her. Serena began her trek to the bathroom; she pushed open the door and stepped into it.

The door creaked open and he turned around and faced the door, “Oh shit!” Sam shouted and turned away from Serena at once.

Serena opened her eyes widely, she did not know what had happened, but all she knew was that Sam was in the bathroom and she had gone right in.

“I’m sorry!” Serena said, immediately turned around and left the bathroom, feeling embarrassing. What the hell was wrong with them these days!? She thought.

Few minutes later, the flush of the toilet was heard and Sam got out of the bathroom. He walked to the other side of the room, picking up the jacket that was dropped on the floor; he saw Serena was sitting on the bed, staring down at the floor; she was either dozing off or still feeling embarrassed about just now.

“You can use the bathroom.” Sam said as he walked pass her.

“Sorry, I didn’t know.” Serena’s face blushed; she raised her head looking at Sam.

“It’s not your fault, don’t worry, I should’ve locked the door.” Sam said and they both looked at each other, straight in the eye, then looked away at that moment Jasmine entered the room.

“Jas?” Serena asked as she got off the bed and stood up.

“Yes?” Jasmine said, eyes flickering over both Sam and Serena.

“You got the key card with you?” Serena asked as she was putting on her jacket.

“Yep, here you go.” Jasmine handed Serena the key card and Serena walked out of the room.

When Serena got into their room, she walked straight to the bathroom and Jasmine followed her there, and shut door behind her. Serena took out her toiletries and started to have her teeth brushed, she looked at Jasmine with what imprinted on her face when Jasmine plainly looked at her without saying anything at first.

“Were you crying?” Jasmine asked straightly.

Serena looked at Jasmine with her eyes wide opened.

“What! No!” Serena said, as she removed the toothbrush from her mouth.

“Then did he say something that upset you?” Jasmine asked again. Serena spilt the toothpaste into the sink and cleaned her mouth with a towel.

“It’s not what you think. I…I went into the bathroom …when he was taking a leak.” Serena said, her face growing red.

“Oh my gosh. What happened then?” Jasmine said, astonished.

“I ran out, of course! Though he asked me not to worry about it, you know we had sex, so…. It’s ok. Still it’s kinda awkward.” Serena explained.

Jasmine nodded, “That’s it?”

Serena sighed, “Yeah, that’s it.”, she added, “So you mind going out and let me finish my business here?” Serena said, pushing her out of the bathroom.

“Sure, sure.”

Ten minutes later.

“S, are you done? Joanna was heading down to have breakfast already, with the others.” Jasmine knocked at the bathroom door.

“Yeah, one second.” Serena said, as she twisted the doorknob and slowly creaked the door open.

Jasmine looked at her and commented, “Are you ok? You look kind of pale.”

Serena half-smiled and replied, “I’m fine.”

Jasmine looked unconvinced but anyway she didn’t push anymore, “Ok then, let’s go.”

*

Jasmine and Serena went to the second floor to join the others to have breakfast. The moment Serena got into the restaurant, she smelled eggs and bacons and her stomach churned. She frowned and swallowed the burning feeling built in the pit of her stomach.

“Hey, what took you guys so long?” Faith asked as she was getting up and prepared to get something to eat.

“Can’t we have some personal time?” Jasmine replied quickly, and smiled.

“Fine.” Faith said and walked away. Jasmine looked at Serena took off her jacket with slow motion, Serena sighed as she set her jacket on the chair. This was just getting annoying.

“Are you done yet?” Serena’s voice was bitter and edgy.

Jasmine looked at her, “With what?” Jasmine asked innocently.

“I mean watching me. You’ve been staring me down since I got out of the bathroom!”

“I just wanna make sure you are ok, because you looked really pale, well, actually even now.” Jasmine said with caution, not wanting Serena to get annoy.

“I’m fine, really.” Serena pressed.

“OK.” Jasmine smiled. Serena looked around and seeing every single thing in this restaurant made her wanted to throw up. She then decided not to have any food but just some liquid.

“Can you go get me a glass of grape juice?” Serena asked Jasmine.

“Where’re you going?” Jasmine asked as she was putting her jacket on the chair next to Lax.

“Washroom, you wanna come with me?” Serena said with sarcastic. Jasmine shook her head and walked to the same direction of Faith. After that, Serena walked rapidly to the bathroom in case something more than words found it’s way out.

“Oops, sorry.” Serena apologized when she knocked Sam on the shoulder while entering the washroom. Sam didn’t even have time to say a word before Serena disappeared into the washroom. Sam stood there for a few seconds, his eyebrows pressed over his head and then walked away.

Sam took a plate and got few pieces of bread with some jam and paced to Jasmine, “Jas?” he asked over her shoulder as she was filling the cups with juices.

“What’s wrong with Serena?”

Jasmine turned around and looked at him, “What do you mean?” she asked with doubted.

“She looks pale, don’t you think?” Sam asked directly.

“I thought so too, but she kept saying she’s ok.” Jasmine replied with agreement.

“And you believe in that?” Sam looked at Jasmine, frowned with disbelief.

“If she said she’s okay, I guess she is.” Jasmine rolled her eyes and answered.

“She always lies about her health.” Sam said as he waved off his hand and added, “Anyway, do you mind go checking on her?”

Jasmine nodded, “Sure.”

*

Serena had her face buried in front of the toilet and began her retching, she felt so disgusting. She closed her eyes when her heaves continued for a few minutes, until it calmed down a few notches to her gagging, nothing coming out and probably nothing could since she hasn’t had anything eaten, her breathing shallow and dramatically labored. When finally Serena calmed down, breathing even and the sweat stopping falling, she opened his eyes.

“S? ‘ re you in here?” Jasmine knocked at the door.

“Um.” That’s all Serena could manage.

“Are you okay in there? Open the door, Serena.” Jasmine asked. Serena flushed and turned away from the toilet slowly and twisted the doorknob.

Jasmine looked at Serena with horror, “Gosh! Serena, you look like shit.” She said with her hands covering her mouth.

“Throw up.” Serena said, having one hand on Jasmine’s shoulder for support.

“Let’s get you inside.” Jasmine urged and dragged Serena back into the restaurant.

“Don’t make it a big deal. I’m actually feeling better now.”

Jasmine looked at her and said, “Someone told me not to believe in you when you said you’re fine.”

Serena rolled her eyes at Jasmine but too tired to argue back.
