Chapter 15
January 2008
The atmosphere in the Biology Lab was so intense; everyone was paying full attention to Mrs. Cohen. They could not make a single mistake in studying the frog, Mrs. Cohen raised her knife, cut open the abdomen of the frog and the students followed.
Sam heard Serena moaned and he looked at Serena with his eyebrows pressed down hard over his eyes. Serena had her head down, staring at the floor.
“Gosh….. I wanna throw up.”
“Mr. Frog being cut opened makes you feel sick?” Sam asked and laughed quietly, not wanting to disturb the other students.
Serena shook her head and whispered, “No.” her voice was shaking a little.
Sam interlaced his fingers with Serena’s and squeezed her hand; his eyebrows pressed over his eyes and asked, his voice softened, not longer teasing, “Are you all right?”
Serena shook her head and smiled bitterly, “I… uh…. I guess not.”
Without missing a bit, Sam asked, his voice sounded totally different, it was full of concern, “What’s wrong?” he placed his other hand on Serena’s stomach, and gently rubbing it in circle.
“Better?” Sam asked fretfully.
“I think I can live through this class.” Serena smiled weakly.
The bell rang and everyone put down their knives and took of the gloves and left the laboratory.
Serena had been sitting so still during the rest of the class, watching what the teacher was doing to the poor frog, that just made her wanted to gag at the sight; and every time she tried to shift to a more comfortable position, she felt nauseous; Sam noticed how pale she was, he gathered his books and as well as Serena’s quickly, “C’mon, let’s go.” Sam said and helped Serena up from the seat slowly.
“I think I got an enterogastritis.” Serena said with her hand placing on her stomach.
“Did you have your breakfast?” Sam asked, turning his head to look at Serena.
“I never have breakfast.” Serena explained as she squeezed her eyes shut.
Sam shook his head and urged, “Maybe you should eat something. C’mon.”
“Hey, dude. Practice, where’re you going?” Lax walked to Sam as he was heading to the door with Serena.
“Sorry, man. I’m kinda busy today. I think I’ll pass.” Sam smiled and walked away with Serena. Lax looked at him and frowned, wondering what Sam’s up to, he never skipped basketball practice.
Sam and Serena walked toward the canteen and on the way she suddenly stood still, grabbing Sam’s arm tightly. He turned and saw Serena was in a state on passing out.
“Sam…I…uh….” Serena could not finish the sentence as a sharp pain shot her stomach and she was leading her entire body on Sam. Her face contorted. She was panting shallowly, breathing through her mouth to ward off some of the nausea that had suddenly come to her. She was trying so hard to stand but her body had other plans. The ground felt like it was covered in marbles and she stumbled a little, sinking to the floor.
Sam noticed Serena’s eyes blinking slowly and stepped in, “Gosh! You okay? C’mon, let’s get you to the clinic.” Sam urged and helped her walked.
Serena refused, shaking her head, “No no no, please, I hate clinic! I’ll be fine, just go back to the dorm with me.” Serena pleaded, and her watery hazel eyes locked with Sam’s eyes. He just could not reject her with that look and he shook his head. He helped her to the Volvo and eased Serena into the passenger seat, wrapping the seatbelt around her. After he was sure Serena was buckled in safely, Sam walked around the truck to his side of the car and slid into the seat.
Several minutes later, they arrived at the blue building; Sam slowly turning into the parking lot of the dorm in an attempt to avoid making Serena nauseous again. He pulled up front of the dorm entrance and shifted the car into park, glancing at Serena out of the corner of his eye, he asked, concerned evident on his face, “Are you okay?”
Serena nodded and then shook her head, not bothered to open her eyes. Sam walked around to her side and helped her out of the car and walked to the building. His hand was on her waist, giving her full support. Serena almost had her whole body lead against Sam. Sam half dragged her to into the lift. He placed the entrance card on the detector and the door clicked open.
They walked in and Sam closed the door behind him absently. “How’re you feeling?” Sam’s voice was full of concern.
“‘m fine.” Serena lied with her eyes closed.
“Right, like I would believe in you! C’mon, sit down.” Sam said with a grin and walked her to the couch and sat next to her.
“Just tell me how you are feeling, please?” Sam pressed with pleaded.
“A bit dizzy.” Serena answered with her eyes opened and closed slowly and allowed her head to rest against Sam’s shoulder. Serena’s eyes slipped closed and Sam’s concern grew.
“Are you sure you’re just a bit dizzy? Do you feel like fainting?” Sam asked and put his hand on Serena’s forehead, “You’re not burning up.”
Serena rested her head on his shoulder. “Hey, here, it’ll be a lot more comfortable.” Sam exhaled after checking for a fever.
Serena heaved a sigh into her exhausted body and managed a smile for Sam as he offered Serena to pillow on his stomach.
An hour later, Serena was sleeping soundly, Sam wanted to stay with her, he hated to leave Serena alone at the dorm but he had a test in the afternoon, he had to leave. He moved Serena’s heavy form off his stomach and gently rolled the sweater nearby into a ball and placed it under her head, acting as a pillow. He went to the bedroom to get the blanket and gently threw it over Serena. He wrote a note and put it beside the pillow.
Get some rest, I’ll come around tonight.
Sam.
Sam grabbed his jacket and took one last glance at Serena before leaving the dorm quietly.
*
Sometimes, I wake up crying at night, and sometimes….
Serena searched her phoned in the dark; she flipped it open and muttered, “Yeah?”
“Wow, you don’t sound so good.” Sam teased, but his voice was with concerned.
“I’m tired.” Serena whispered with a yawn.
“Did you eat anything?” Sam’s tune was no longer teasing, he sounded worried and serious.
“Nah, I didn’t even wake up if it wasn’t your call.”
“You should get up and eat something now.” Sam said putting specific emphasis on the word ‘now’. “I come over and bring you some food, ok?”
Serena groaned but did not answer at once, and then Sam started to worry, “Serena? Hey, you with me?”
Serena moaned.
“You just hang on, ok? I’ll be right there in a sec.”
Sam hanged up and dashed for the door, he needed to be with Serena now. He threw the Volvo into gear and moved off.
“Serena?” Sam called out, not really expecting an answer. Serena pushed her up from the couch reluctantly and walked to the door slowly, the moment she had the door opened, Sam dropped his arm around Serena’s shoulders and tucked her against his side.
“Damn it! You okay? Do you feel feverish?” Sam asked in concern as he released Serena and ran his hand over her forehead. Serena looked blankly at Sam and shook her head, she felt her stomach lurched and all she could do was to lean weakly to the side. Her body was trembling from pain. She was just so sick of feeling weak and she was totally not in full control of her body, Serena felt the burning feeling build in the pit of her stomach and knew she had to make to the toilet or she would mess up Sam’s clothes.
Serena whispered, “S...si..ck…”Her voice was quiet but Sam still heard it. He could always hear Serena’s voice. Sam immediately helped her to the washroom, and with no time to spare Serena dropped to the floor in front of the toilet and heaved her guts up.
Sam kneed down next to her, his hand placed on her back rubbing the intense muscle. He felt like his heart was being stabbed when he saw her like this.
“I’m driving you to the hospital.” Sam insisted; he helped Serena up slowly from the floor with his grip around Serena’s waist.
“No, I’m really ok.” Serena protested immediately.
“Don’t lie, I won’t believe in you.” Sam snapped and trying to have Serena off the floor. “I should have ditched class after the test!” Sam said angrily.
“You’re…mad.” Serena mumbled almost silently, taking a few breaths in between her words.
Sam walked her to the couch and fetched the glass of water next to her. “I’m not, I… it hurts me to see you in pain.” Sam explained as he steadied Serena. He had his azure eyes wide opened, studying Serena when he saw no replied from her and clearly with her eyes closed. Serena was having trouble breathing and was in pain and her entire body felt weak.
“Heyheyhey, you with me?” Sam shook her gently. Serena groaned and flickered open her eyes and nodded.
“I’ll be really mad if you don’t eat and rest now, c’mon!” Sam said in a firm, but soothing voice.
Serena looked at him, “I don’t think my stomach can hold anything.” she assured him.
Sam sighed, then carefully trudging Serena through the bedroom and eased down onto the bed.
“Now, get some rest.” Sam said as he tucked her in and kissed her on the forehead.
“I’m not sure if I can.” Serena breathed with her eyes closed.
“Do you want me to leave?” Sam asked with doubt.
“NO!” Serena opened her eyes at once and shouted with all her strength.
Sam laughed, “Here take these, they are painkillers.” Serena popped the pills into her mouth and drank the whole glass of water. Sam sat at Serena’s side and began rubbing her stomach gently now and then, hoping to help her feel better. He really wanted to have her checked out in the hospital, he did not know what was wrong with her, and he really could not bear to see her in pain, but on the other way, he did not want to force her to go when she so did not want to. Soon Serena’s eyelids felt as if they’d been loaded down with free weight, and she drifted off to a safe restful sleep.
The blinding sunlight came through the window and eventually woke Serena. She moaned and rolled to her side, hoping some more sleep would come.
“How’re you feeling?” Sam’s voice came from the chair at the corner of the room.
“Oh! Sam?” Serena sat up so fast it made her head spin, she regretted immediately and brought her hand to the head and Sam was worried when he saw that.
“Are you all right?” Sam rushed to Serena’s side.
“Ha, I’m okay. I’m actually feeling better.” Now this time Serena sat up slowly and thoughtlessly she threw herself to Sam’s arm and kissed him on the cheek.
“Wow, I’m sure you are feeling a lot better.” A smiled formed on Sam’s face, pleased by her action, his hands rubbed her back.
“It’s so nice to see you with me the moment I wake up.”
Sam kissed her on her forehead.
“Are you hungry?” Sam asked, pulled her away just enough to look at her eyes.
Serena nodded and said, “I’m starving!” she stood up, this time doing it slowly. She smiled to herself, she was really glad that Sam was there with her the whole time.
“Ah, can I have a moment.” Serena requested.
“I’ll wait, as long as you want me to.” Sam replied.
After Serena brushed her teeth, combed the hair, she walked back to her room.
“You know, you are interesting when you sleep.” Sam spoke matter-of- factly.
“You talked in different languages” He laughed.
“What! NO!” Serena gasped. “What did I talk about?”
“Nothing special, because I can’t take in some parts.” Sam smirked.
“But you have a something-special face.” Serena noted.
“Well, the part that I can take in is that as you were sleeping you said my name, like a million times.” Sam chuckled.
“Oh.” Was all Serena could say.
“And…you said…” Sam continued.
“And what!? What else did I say?” Serena asked.
“You said you loved me.” His blue eyes grew soft.
“You knew that already.” Serena reminded him.
“It was nice to hear.” Sam murmured. Serena hit her face against his shoulder.
“I love you.” She whispered.
“You are my heart; no one else can replace you.” Sam promised, he pulled her into a hug and kissed her.
Chapter 16
January 2008
“This is Sam Parker. Please leave a message.”
Serena moaned and hanged up. Sam and she were supposed to prepare for the modeling function that night. Sam told her he would be there in the afternoon if he could make it.
“If he couldn’t, at least give me a call!” Serena said to herself angrily. Anger welled inside her. She flipped open the phone and dial again, she reached his voicemail but this time she left a message.
“If you don’t wanna pick up, don’t pick up ever again!”
Serena was really mad at him this time; Sam always said he would do this and that with her but in the end, she was always the only one doing everything.
After the whole function was over, Sam still did not call. Serena saw him at the backstage a while ago but when she walked to her. He walked to Joanna and whispered something into her ears and the walked away at once. He seemed to be avoiding Serena.
The entire world crashed down when Serena saw that.
What’s wrong with him!? She thought. She felt tears threatened to spill over.
That night Serena called Sam but he never picked up. She went on msn, but he never replied when Serena send him a nuggle. She felt even more upset when she saw Sam’s personal message.
Sam – I love you!
Serena did not want to give a damn anymore, maybe Sam was having fun with someone else, and she meant nothing to him.
*
Going to school, knowing Sam might be mad at her for she did not know why was never fun. Serena parked the Porsche randomly on the side and got off. She walked to the classroom slowly, she did not want to reach the classroom so soon, and her heart bumping faster than ever; she was thinking what to say to Sam when she saw him. Should she act like nothing had happened? Serena sighed, she pushed opened the door and got in, to her surprised, Sam was not there.
Maybe he really is avoiding me. She told herself. She took a seat and looked out of the window. All of a sudden, she remembered she had left the biology book in the car.
Dang!
She stood up at once, glancing at the watch, it said 8:00, she still had time to go and fetch it. She rushed out of the classroom and headed to the Porsche. When she was getting closer to the car, she frowned at the little white paper clipped on the windshield.
“No way! You’re doing this to me too!?” Serena cried. She should have parked it in the parking lot so she would not get a ticket!
“What’s wrong with everyone!? Is everyone mad at me now!?” She shouted, people walking along the pavement were looking at her weird. “You guys wanna avoid me as well, huh??” she yelled at the people who were staring at her, they quickly turned and walked away.
Serena let out a long sigh. At that very moment she really wanted to cry. She did not understand why Sam was avoiding her, mad at her. She wanted to know why! She tore the ticket and tucked it in her pocket.
“Why is everyone mad at you?”
Serena was startled by the hand wrapping around her waist. “Sam?” She turned around and looked at him. “Oh….” She threw herself into his arms.
“What’s wrong, sweetie?” Sam coaxed a warm hand fell on her back, comforting her.
“I’m sorry, don’t be mad at me please?” Serena pulled away and raised her head to look at Sam. Tears were running down her cheeks.
“I’m not mad at you.”
Serena frowned, “Huh? Then…why you didn’t call me?”
Sam reached for her face and wiped the tears that was falling, “I’m mad at myself for upsetting you.”
Serena had her mouth hanged open when hearing that. “Sam Parker! You upset me even more because you didn’t call!” Serena yelled at him.
“I’m sorry,” Sam apologized, and pulled her into his arms, “I got your voicemail, you said if I didn’t pick up, don’t ever pick up again so I don’t dare to call you. I’m afraid you’ll be really mad when you hear my voice.” Sam said and pulled her into a hug again.
Serena rolled her eyes. “Parker, don’t you know what girls said were not exactly what they want?”
Sam chuckled, “Now I know.” He cupped her face and started the kiss. The way he kissed her always left her breathless.
“Ah hum.”
Sam and Serena pulled away and turned to look at Mr Wilson.
“Mr Parker and Miss Pleasure, I think it’s time for you to get to class.”
Sam and Serena giggled and said, “Yes, sir.” They walked to the classroom, hand in hand.
During the computer lesson, they went on msn.
Serena: actually when I type my blog in Italian, when you go there, will you urself translate what I wrote?
Sam: no
Serena: Why not? Then why you go there?
Sam: curious
Serena: curious in a way that you will not want to know what I wrote....
Sam: cos someone will translate it for me
Serena: who?
Sam: someone I care and luv
Serena: ???Me?
Sam: this is what I can tell
Serena: J
Serena: ok...I’m so curious about who you were talking to, the “I luv you!” on the msn name that you wrote a while ago...if you remember
Sam: to the one I luv care
Serena: the same ans as before?
Sam: for sure.
Serena: OMG! Why will you wrote that?
Sam: I only luv one person at one time and won't change
Chapter 17
January 2008
Sam’s weblog
It’s always like that, why do we have to fight about that? I can’t believe we are fighting in just three days time! Last time, it was like that, and again this time. You said I didn’t think of you, you had the right to say it out loud, then what about me? Who can I talk to? You know, it’s hard for us to be together like that! I really want to be together with you forever and ever. So tell me how!
*
After reading that post, Serena was very confused, she did not know what happened, as she recalled, she didn’t have any fight with Sam, but why would Sam say that, no way would have Serena done something that made Sam mad and she did not know! Serena wanted to ask Sam but the entire day, Sam seemed normal, nothing out of ordinary. It looked like the post never existed. But she knew that was not true.
Serena’s weblog
It’s true that Lax is always in the way, and he makes me feel so uncomfortable. But, now it doesn’t matter whether Lax is in the way or not. I won’t give a damn about him anymore, because his existence will not change our relationship. Just as what you’ve said on the 4th. I will always remember that day, what you’ve said.
*
Later that night, Serena studied her Biology test for the next day. After several hours, she finally finished. She switched on the computer, login to the Wi-Fi and started to read Sam’s weblog, seeing if he had mentioned anything about what she had said on her previous post. She wished Sam agreed with her too.
Sam’s weblog
You are sooooo right, S; no one can ever change the relationship between us. We are friends forever. I think there is some misunderstanding between our conversations. I always wanna be friends with you, just that. What I mean those I love you, they are just “Friend Love”. I got someone I love and love me. I’ve told you those I love you that you saw on my weblog or msn, they are not about you, but still you did not get the message. I hate being misunderstood. I just wanna be a very good friend with you.
Serena gasped when reading this. She burst out crying, she just couldn’t help. Why, why on earth will he say that? He knows how much I love him; no way will he say such heartbreaking stuff. No way. What the hell! Serena thought.
Serena rushed to the bathroom; she looked into the mirror and caught sight of herself in the mirror. Looking straight into her eyes, she began to notice the hurt she felt, her eyes were now filled with tears, and was ready to roll off.
“Sam’s been lying to you all this time. He’s two-timing on you…”
The reflection told Serena. She shook her head to clear her mind; she knew that was not true, but on the other hand, she knew that she could not be sure. She immediately rushed out of the bathroom; she wanted to bury herself in her sack. She sat on the bed and buried her head in her hands, crying. She couldn’t figure out the reason why. She knew Sam loved her, she did not imagine that. Serena couldn’t hold her feeling any longer, she had to ask, she then texted Sam a message.
Who are you talking to on your blog?
Serena typed and did not even bother to write to whom and from whom, but she hesitated for a second before pressing send. A few minutes later, Sam still hadn’t replied, Serena texted again.
I don’t care whether the answer is the one I want or not, I just wanna know! SO HUMOR ME! Dammit!
But Sam never called, Serena was rolling back and forth the entire night, she kept thinking about what she read. Slowly, she drifted off to a restless sleep.
The next day was a very long day. Serena did not see Sam until after school; she went to look for Sam at the gym. She could not wait to ask him what was that all about.
Sam and the rest of the teammates were practicing basketball. Serena walked closer, “Hey, Sam”, she said, sounded upset.
“Oh, hey! Serena, what are you doing here?” Sam smiled happily when he saw Serena.
“Can I talk to you?” Serena said in monotone.
“Uh, okay, sure.” Sam frowned; he dunked the ball and walked to the corner with Serena.
Serena turned around and asked, “Do you have something to tell me?” she asked in a low voice, not wanting Sam’s teammates heard what they were talking about.
“I got the text message this morning, I’m sorry.” Sam half-smiled, knowing that he was in big trouble.
Serena rolled her eyes.
Sam knew exactly what she was about to say, and he immediately cut in. “I honestly don’t know when to tell you about that thing since everybody was so busy today, but I planned to talk to you tonight.” Sam explained, looking at Serena like an innocent kid.
“Why can’t you just talk to me first thing in the morning? Why wait until tonight?” Serena asked, almost shouting, not longer controlling her emotion, when Sam saw that, he was totally speechless, he did not expect Serena to have such big reaction.
“Now please, did I say something way too honest and scare you? Tell me now if you don’t wanna be with me.” Serena said as she was choking back her tears, but her voice was so watery.
“Oh gosh, Serena, please, of course I want to be with you.” Sam was surprised seeing Serena cried; he immediately wiped the tears falling from Serena’s eyes. He knew he had hurt Serena real bad this time.
Serena looked away, unable to meet Sam’s gaze, she wondered why Sam would not tell her at once, why he had to type something like that on the blog and to torture her by not answering her answer.
“You told me you love me, so why push me around!? You told me you want me, so why cut me down!? I felt like I got dumped right after I’m loved!” Serena snapped; tears went down her cheek.
Sam’s eyes looked wide when he heard that. “Wow, hold it there. I love you, I also want you. But I never push you around nor have I cut you down.” His voice softened, “Serena, I’m sorry, I should’ve called.”
He reached out for her hand and continued, “And I didn’t type that.”
“What? Who will do that then?” Serena asked in disbelieve.
Sam hesitated for a moment and said, “You don’t wanna know.”
Serena frowned and shook her head, “Try me. Do I know him?” Serena declared, she thought it was Lax who did that, just like what he asked Sam to do last time. She choked back tears and trying to think straight and concentrate on what Sam said.
“Why will you know Donna?” Sam whispered.
“Who the hell is Donna!?”
Sam ran his fingers through his hair and replied, “My sister, she’s one hell of a lunatic. She’s the one who typed it, not me.” Sam cleared his throat and kept on explaining. “There was one night I forgot to log out my blog and she found out I’m dating. She doesn’t want me to get into any relationship for whatever reasons.” Sam sounded upset; he reached up for Serena’s chin.
Serena moved away, “Why didn’t you tell me? You should have told me!”
“Sorry. I’m so sorry.” Sam apologized. “This annoyed me so much; I mean she just sat right next to me, and typed this kind of thing. I was shocked when seeing that.” Sam clarified and one hand dropped behind her waist and pulled her closer, this time, Serena did not struggled.
Serena looked at him and started, “You should have given me some heads-up like last time that Lax asked you to send me that stupid message saying we are just friends, I’ve misunderstood you. I mean, I won’t be hurt because you told me before head, but this time?” Her hazel eyes were on fire, she was so anger and as well as upset for there was someone getting in their way.
“Why are you doing this to torture me?” Serena broke off.
“I’m sorry, I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to hurt you.” Sam asked for forgiveness over and over, he could not stand seeing Serena like that, so hurt and broken because he was stupid enough to let her get hurt.
“Oh, sweetie, don’t be like that, sorry.” Sam said as he tucked Serena’s head under his chin, rubbing her back and soothed, “You know I would never do anything to hurt you. I’m so sorry.”
Serena took a deep breath, moved her head away from his chin and said, “Apology accepted.”
Sam wiped the wet from her eyes and smiled. “You know, after that day, I thought everything’s settled, keeping that way. Not gonna change--”
Serena cut in, “Just because I thought that too! That’s why I can’t understand why you will say that!” Serena said, shaking her head.
“Sorry. Well, I thought you can tell that wasn’t me typing. I won’t write such heartbreaking stuff and besides we didn’t have any fight.” Sam said, coaxing her face.
“Yeah, but I don’t have any hard proof! I was petrified and burst out tears; I can’t even think straight, I can only ask you right away!” Serena cried again.
“I didn’t know how to tell you. Serena, I’m sorry.” Sam pleaded; he felt like his heart was being torn apart, seeing her with tears.
“Well, I guess I can’t express my feeling on my blog anymore.” Serena sighed with a shake of her head.
“Yeah, right, not until she stopped acting silly.” Sam sighed, and kissed her forehead.
“Do you really have any idea how important you are to me? How much I love you?” Serena complained.
“Yeah, of course I know! I also know how much I love you. How much you mean to me.” Sam said, he pulled Serena tighter against his chest, and moved his lips to Serena’s cheek and kissed her. He whispered in her ear, “Don’t worry, baby, I’m not planning on breaking any promises and becoming just friends with you, I’m not.”
Chapter 18
February 2008
Sam,
Why didn’t you call me back last night?
S.
Serena sent Sam a text message in the morning that she was leaving for
Sometimes I wake up crying at night and sometime……
“Hey morning sunshine.” Sam greeted, he was so in a happy mood.
“Hey morning, so, am I going to get my answer?” said Serena as she was yawning.
“Because….”
“Don’t tell me you have fallen asleep!” Serena asked anyway, knowing the answer would be a yes.
“Well, you know me! After chatting with
“How could you! I was waiting for you!”
“Sorry.” Sam apologized.
“Sighed, forget about it.” Serena said with a sleepy voice.
“You’re still in bed?”
“Yeah. What are you doing?”
“I am getting ready to go back school for that friggin’ gathering! And go have lunch with Lax”
“Oh, I see.” Serena yawned.
“You better get up and dress, I call you later, okay?”
“Sure, if you remember.”
“I’ll remember!”
“Don’t you forget again!”
“I won’t dare to, trust me.” Sam laughed and the line ended and Serena hanged up as well.
After an hour later, Serena arrived at the airport, she was so bored and wishing Sam would call her and at the very moment, her dream came true.
Sometimes I wake up crying at night and sometime……
Serena flipped open the phone the moment it rang.
“Hey, not yet boarding?” Sam asked.
“Nope. Hey, now, tell me.”
“Tell you what? I don’t remember you asking me anything just now.” Sam was trying to be innocent.
“You didn’t read my weblog?” Serena was surprised.
“I did. So?”
“Then for sure you know what I meant. Don’t play dumb with me.” Serena wondered.
“Oh…I have no idea.” Sam giggled, pretending he did not get what Serena was asking. In fact, he knew perfectly clear that Serena was asking Sam to say “I Love You” to her; she wanted to hear it because she wouldn’t be able to talk to Sam for the coming two weeks!
“Then forget about it!” Serena sounded upset. She really wanted to hear it from Sam again.
“Well, okay.” Sam laughed, not planning to give in so fast.
Serena could not believe Sam really was not going to say the three words! “What the--!”
“Yes” Sam said at last.
“Yes what?” Serena asked.
“I said YES.” Sam said a little louder.
“Oh, you can’t get away that easily, I want more than that.” Serena grinned.
“You really want me to say in front of so many people on the street?”
“Um….well. Only if you want to.”
Sam did not say anything, Serena was wondering why. She frowned at the phone and placed it near her ear and said, “Sam? You there?”
“Turn around.” Sam said suddenly.
Serena turned and her mouth hanged open, Sam was standing right behind her.
“Surprised!” Sam smirked and opened his arms for her.
It took a few moments before Serena could bring herself to say anything.
“What’re you doing here? Shouldn’t you be at that stupid gathering?” Serena said as she was hugging him tightly.
“Yeah, I can just skip it anyway. Besides, I wanna surprised you.” Sam replied and pulled her back.
“Oh, Sam.” Serena smiled happily.
“I would like to say it in person.” Sam smirked, his azure eyes was glittering. “I love you, Serena.”
Serena smiled back; Sam pulled her closer and kissed her hair. “I’ll miss you.” Sam whispered.
“I’ll miss you too.” Serena looked at Sam and breathed a kiss on his lips.
“CX 830 from Kansans to
“Call me when you landed.” Sam said, still holding her hands.
Serena smiled and nodded, “I will.” She picked up her bags and walked toward the boarding gate. Sam broke in a run and spun her around and kissed her passionately.
*
Right after the flight attendant returned the boarding pass to Serena, her cell phone rang;
Serena
Luv u always
Sam.
The moment Serena arrived at the JKF airport; she received a text message from Sam.
Serena!
Omg! I dunno why I felt so dull the whole day, I don’t have any mood to do anything, miss you a lot!
Sam.
A sweet smile danced on Serena’s face when seeing this message.
All that time in
Chapter 19
February 2008
Serena had never taken things in such a serious way. She had never been in a relationship before. And the feeling was amazing. The love for others is incredible.
In the past she would not have this kind of thing to care, even just friendship; She would not care as much as she did right now, she would not cry for certain things in the past, but now she would, and also laugh out loud for seeing and hearing what Sam said, she would care so much about that, she never wanted lose the relationship, no matter what. She has changed, changed so much. She wished she could tell how happy she was and how wonderful it was to have Sam around her. Remembering Sam was the joy of the season.
Serena always hoped that Sam would do something on the Valentine’s Day, but she knew perfectly clear that he wouldn’t because he was way too passive. On Valentine’s Day, a lot of people gave Sam presents and because of this, Serena always thought that the relationship between Sam and her were not strong enough, soon, it would be over. However, Sam once said he would only love one person at one time and would not change, he would not care what other think. Serena took the promise seriously. This was the only thing that made Serena felt easy.
*
“Hey.” Serena greeted him with a kiss when Sam opened the door.
“I’m so happy to see you.” Sam said and kissed her back. They walked to the living room together; Sam’s hand on her waist. He let go of her when Serena saw what was on the table, it was covered with the brown bags from Chinese restaurant.
“Wow, Sam.” Serena said, she could not take her eyes off them.
“Do you like it? I think it’s gonna be wonderful to eat together. I don’t feel like cooking or going out to eat today.” Sam smiled and pulled the chair for her to sit.
“Yeah it’s good.”
Sitting down at the table, Serena started unpacking the contents of the boxes and she picked up the chopsticks. “So. Do you think you have to go back tonight?” Sam asked, pressed on the word “have”.
Serena looked up from the food, “Um…it’s not a must.” she answered and then suddenly realized what Sam really meant and she smiled, “Well, do you want me to?” Serena asked and looked at Sam.
Sam chuckled, “You know I want you to stay.”
“Then I’ll stay.” Serena said and led forward and breathed a kiss on Sam’s lips.
“Oh, by the way, I’m thinking maybe we can watch the movie the next weekend?” Sam asked, playing with his chopsticks.
“Because?”
“I’ve skipped a lot of practices and Lax makes me practice this weekend.” Sam said and ran his fingers through his hair.
Serena nodded and continued to eat.
“Just that? You’re not mad?” Sam asked, he was surprised, he thought Serena would be sad or angry but she just nodded.
“Um hum” Serena said, eyes fixed on her food, trying to control her anger.
But she could not. She directed her anger at Lax.
“Why Lax has to be always in our way!” Serena burst out and put down her chopsticks. She looked at Sam straight into his eyes.
Sam was surprised by her sudden anger, he smiled nervously and shook his head, “I don’t know, I don’t know what’s on his mind.”
Serena sighed, “That’s so annoying! I hate him so much, I wanna kill him!!!” She complained and picking up the chopsticks and stabbing it fiercely in the dumplings on her plate.
“Wow…you won’t.” Sam laughed.
“Why are you sure?” Serena asked, chewing her food.
Sam smirked and said, “Because you love me.”
“And… what’s it got to do with killing Lax?” Serena frowned at him.
“You love me, so that you will not leave me for prison.” Sam grinned and eating the rest of the noodles in the box. “Well, maybe I should think of a way to fix that.”
“You better.” Serena said firmly. She sighed and changed the topic; she did not want Lax to ruin her appetite. “By the way, you know, during the computer lesson, Faith asked me whether I have given you anything on the Valentine’s Day.”
Sam nodded then Serena continued, “Well, then I asked her why should I. After that she asked me if you did, it’s so funny, you know, and then she asked you about that too, right?”
Sam simply said, “Yep.” and then he worked on his food again.
“Then what did you say?” Serena asked, she was very keen to know the answer.
Sam thought for a second and then answered, “I answered why I have to.”
Serena felt a bit disappointed and said, “Yep, right. Why you have to….that’s a good question.”
After hearing that, Sam said nothing.
Serena broke the silent and continued to ask, “Why didn’t you ask me out on that day?”
Sam did not reply at once, he was thinking hard on how to reply in a way that would not hurt Serena.
“Well….if I did that on such an obvious day, everyone will know that we’re dating, and they won’t let us go until they have made enough fun on us.”
Serena nodded but still feeling a bit disappointed about that day.
“Besides, on that day, you are supposed to do so, not me.” Sam said seconds later.
Serena’s eyebrows shot up, “Oh! That’s what you were thinking.”
After hearing such replied, Sam said at once, “But I did plan to.”
Serena sighed and asked, “I know it’s kind of a girls thing but have you ever thought that I might want it so much?” Serena looked down at her plate.
“Actually I have ordered.” Sam said, he wanted to give Serena a surprise, but on the other hand, he did not want to see her sad.
“What?” Serena looked up and asked with excitement.
Sam smirked, “What what? I didn’t say anything.”
“What? What did you say just now?” Serena kept asking, she was sure Sam had said something.
“I’ve planned to give you something, but not on Valentine’s Day.” Sam finally gave in and told her.
“Oh.” That’s all Serena could say.
